An important food of the inhabitants in the Amazon, which is also of North to southern Brazil, has become increasingly popular in other countries, as the United States: the acai pure. Being marketed as a "superfruta" in North American markets, that highlight the potential benefits to health, a group of researchers from Texas A & M University has studied the acai since 2001.

The latest result of the new research brings good news to consumers
the fruit of the palm Euterpe oleracea. In an article published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, scientists describe the antioxidants contained in acai are absorbed by the human body.
The study involved 12 volunteers who consumed acaipure pulp and in the form of juice, the latter containing half the concentration of anthocyanins - pigments that give color to fruit - than the version in the flesh. The two foods were compared with juices without antioxidant properties, used as control. Samples of blood and urine of the participants were taken 12 and 24 hours after consumption and analyzed. According to the researchers, both the flesh and the juice showed significant absorption of antioxidants in the blood after have been consumed.
Benefits of acai
Further work may help determine whether the consumption of acai berry diet can result in benefits to health with respect to the prevention of diseases to be possible to make recommendations on the safe adequate quantities to be consumed.
